The Lorraine American Cemetery is in northeastern France, just north of the town of St. Avold. It contains the graves of 10, 481 servicemen, the largest number of American World War II military graves in Europe. It also holds a memorial dedicated to the 444 soldiers missing in action. Many of the servicemen buried here died while driving German forces toward the Siegfried Line and the Rhine River. The cemetery was dedicated in 1960 and is currently maintained by the American Battle Monuments Commission.
