The Rhone American Cemetery is in southern France, in the city of Draguignan. The U.S. Seventh Army established this cemetery in August 1944 when it moved up the Rhone valley after landing at the Côte d’Azur in Operation Dragoon. It holds the graves of 860 U.S. servicemen as well as a memorial commemorating 294 missing. Most of the servicemen buried here lost their lives liberating southern France. The cemetery was dedicated in 1956 and is maintained by the American Battle Monuments Commission.
