The JMG Traveling Theater provides several ways for UCF Theatre and Nursing students to
engage, including:

  • Theater coursework
  • Independent studies and practicum
  • Volunteer opportunities for Nursing students
  • Paid research and administrative roles

 

Theatre

Theatre students, and Nursing students who are Theatre minors, can participate in the following courses:

  • Creative Drama: Offered Fall semesters, this university-sanctioned Integrative-Learning Experience course focuses on teaching artistry. Students will work in groups to develop lesson plans, which they will facilitate in traditional classroom spaces. They will then explore how to modify their lessons for youth in the hospital setting.
  • Theatre for Young Audiences and Communities: Offered Spring semesters, this Service-Learning course provides a general overview of Theatre for Young Audiences in the United States. This course culminates in students performing a play at schools and for patients.

 

Participating in the above courses fulfills the following National Association of Schools of Theatre, among others:

  • H.VII.B F. Growth in artistry, technical skills, collaborative competence, and knowledge. repertory through regular performance and production experiences. Students must have such experiences throughout the degree program.
  • H.IX.F.3.C. Skill in performing and teaching creative drama.
  • H.VII.A.6.3  A functional awareness of the differences and commonalities regarding work in artistic, scientific, and humanistic domains.
  • H.IX.F.2 Studies in such areas as philosophy and practice of education, psychology, childhood development, recreation, children’s literature, and sociology are strongly recommended.
  • H.X.C.3.A An understanding of child development and the identification and understanding of psychological principles of learning as these relate to theatre education.
